          Visa Evidence Charge (VEC) Doubles

The Visa Evidence Charge will more than double from 1 July, increasing from $70 to $150.
The Visa Evidence Charge is the cost of having a visa label put into your passport. Visa Evidencing is generally not required these days because Immigration can verify your status electronically.

The Visa Evidence Charge is payable if a person requests a visa label affixed to their passport as evidence of visa grant. The increase reflects the Governments attitude towards a shift toward digital services. Online verification of visa is now widely used and accepted in Australia.

Though there is no announcement as yet, it is quite likely that application fees for most visa types will also rise by approximately 5% from 1 July 2014.

p.s Australia is now visa label-free. This means you do not need a visa label in your passport to travel to, enter or stay in Australia.

Increase in Partner Visa Application Charge

Starting from 1 January 2015 the Partner Visa Application Charge (VAC) is going to increase in price.

How much will a Partner or Prospective Marriage visa cost?

There has been a 50 per cent increase to most partner Visa Application Charges. We are unable to provide you with an estimate of your fees as this amount will vary based on your circumstances. Updated pricing information is available through the visa pricing estimator.

                    What subclasses are affected?

This change will apply to permanent Partner visa subclasses (combined 309/100 and 820/801) and the prospective marriage visa (subclass 300).

What if I have already lodged my application?

The new fee will apply to Partner visa applications lodged on, or after 1 January 2015.
This increase will not affect you if you have lodged a valid application prior to 1 January 2015.

What other options are available if I can't afford the increased VAC?

You might consider applying for a visa under the skilled stream, which generally has quicker processing times. Visit our SkillSelect area on our website to see if there is a skilled visa option for you.

Why has the cost of a partner visa been increased?

This was a decision made by the Government in order to fund whole-of-government policy priorities.

Can I receive financial assistance to pay the VAC? Can the VAC be waived?

The department does not offer any financial assistance to visa applicants. You might consider seeking assistance from family and friends or a financial institution. The VAC is a substantial cost for most couples to bear, it is a legislative requirement that the visa application charge be paid for the application to be valid. No assessment of a visa application can be made before the appropriate charges have been paid. Furthermore, there is no provision to waive, reduce, or pay a Partner or Prospective Marriage VAC in instalments.

How can I lodge a Partner visa application before 1 January 2015?

You should lodge your Partner visa application online via ImmiAccount as this service will be available over the Christmas/New Year Period. You will also have quicker confirmation that your application has been lodged and you will be able to track the progress of your application online.

1 July 2015 the Department of Immigration and Border Protection and the Australian Customs and Border Protection Service are integrating into a single organisation - the Department of Immigration and Border Protection and the Australian Border Force will be established within the Department.

1 July 2015 email addresses will change from '@immi.gov.au' or '@customs.gov.au' to '@border.gov.au'.

To support the integration, a new website will be launched at www.border.gov.au. From this date, internet searches for immi.gov.au and customs.gov.au will redirect to the new address.

                        Design
The new website will combine information from the Department and ACBPS websites and include new information about the ABF.

The website will have a new look and feel and will be optimised for mobile devices. There will be ongoing updates to the website after 1 July 2015.

Some pages will automatically redirected to the new location. You will need to fix any broken links, bookmarks or favourites in your system from 1 July 2015. The new URLs to specific web pages will not be available before this date.

                        Content
Some other websites owned by the Department will remain in their current form. These include the Minister's and Assistant Minister's websites, the Translating and Interpreting Service website and the Office of the MARA website.

Content from other sites owned by the Department will be integrated with the new website. For example, products and information on citizenship.gov.au and cargosupport.gov.au will be moved to the new website.

                        Email addresses
As part of this change, the Department's email domain will change to firstname.lastname@border.gov.au. While information sent to existing @immi.gov.au and @customs.gov.au email addresses will be delivered to the intended recipients at border.gov.au, please update your contact details for the Department on 1 July 2015.

                        Applications
Applications that are currently accessed using the immi.gov.au or customs.gov.au websites, such as ImmiAccount, VEVO, ICS or the Customs Connect Facility, will not be affected by this change and will continue to function as normal.

Until 1 July 2015, feedback or questions can be provided using the online feedback form.
